World archery format/target archery (Archery Australia) by Jacob Blackburn
SO, you want to be an Olympic archer. Look no further than the world archery format of archery. This is likely the most popular style of competitive archery in Australia. Olympic dreams not required.
Put simply, this style consists of shooting usually at targets at a distance known to you. The type of round and distance(s) you shoot are determined by your bow type, age category, and the round being run at the event. This can include shooting indoor at 18m or outdoors at any distance up to 90 metres. If this is the style you’re looking for, have a look around Archery Australia’s website and your respective state branch, Archery Victoria for example.
This style of archery has been run for hundreds or even thousands of years around the world in a largely similar format. Archers stand on a common shooting line and shoot their arrows at a target in front of them. Simply explained, but VERY difficult to master.
